Inclusive Clubs, Upper Mount Gravatt

Tuesday24 October 2017

Part of the Building Active Communities Workshops program.

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games is going for gold in its quest to deliver an inclusive Games and will proudly host the largest integrated Para-Sport program in Commonwealth Games history.

How well does your sport welcome people with a disability into your club communities? This FREE workshop explores best practice in developing, promoting and embracing the contribution people of all abilities can make to local sports clubs as players, coaches, referees, administrators, fans and volunteers. An inclusive club gets talked about, attracting support from the whole community!

  • Develop an understanding of the new National Disability Insurance Scheme and the opportunity this presents for your sport.
  • What is an ‘inclusive’ club? Assess your clubs’ readiness for inclusion.
  • Identify inclusive partnerships and how to attract people with a disability to your clubs.
  • Plan an education campaign to promote inclusive practices within your club membership.

This is a two-part professional development opportunity, with a follow up focus group being held for participants to return for peer feedback and mentoring six weeks after the initial workshop. To gain the most out of the program participants are encouraged to commit to both opportunities.
