Community service announcement - Mapleton Falls Lookout remedial works will start this week

14 March 2016

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will start remedial works on the Mapleton Falls Lookout on Wednesday 16 March 2016, weather permitting.

The lookout has been closed since February 2015 due to damage caused by ex-Cyclone Marcia.

QPWS has engaged geo-engineering contractors to stabilise the cliff edges and modify the lookout to make it failsafe against any similar events in the future.

QPWS expects the work will be completed on or by Thursday 24 March, depending on weather conditions, and appreciates the community’s patience. Please observe any safety signage.

Mapleton Falls National Park will remain open to visitors during the work.  Vehicle access to the car park may be closed for short periods. Alternative parking will be provided at the site during these closures.

Safety information and updates on Mapleton Falls National Park are available at http://www.npsr.qld.gov.au/parks/mapleton-falls/. Information on other local bushwalking opportunities can be found at www.npsr.qld.gov.au/parks.
