QPWS monitoring wildfire at Mt Archer

15 July 2015

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) is monitoring a wildfire that has escaped from private property onto Mt Archer National Park near Rockhampton.

A neighbour’s planned burn moved onto the park late yesterday (Tuesday 14 July).

The wildfire is in remote and steep terrain, and is being monitored by QPWS assisted by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) staff.

The fire is likely to burn for several days. Containment lines are in place.

Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads, and motorists are advised to drive to the conditions.

Residents should shut windows and doors, and people with respiratory illnesses should keep medications close by.
