Mapleton Falls lookout platform temporarily closed

19 March 2015

The Mapleton Falls National Park lookout platform is temporarily closed until further notice, due to damage from ex-Cyclone Marcia in February.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) Sunshine Coast Principal Ranger Stephen Price said heavy rainfall had caused a landslip near the lookout foundations, and the integrity of the structure was currently being assessed.

“The lookout will be closed until the necessary assessments and repair work are complete,” Mr Price said.

“The park is open and visitors can still enjoy the picnic ground and rainforest walks, including the Wompoo Circuit out to Peregrine Lookout.

“Mapleton Falls National Park is still a beautiful place to visit for its forests, birdlife and views, but please, for your own safety, don’t venture into the closed area or onto the lookout platform that has been barricaded off,” Mr Price said.

“Engineers are currently assessing the impact of the landslip on the lookout structure and will report on what is required to make it safe. Investigation and repairs could take a while, and we ask for everyone’s patience,” he said.
