Harvesting native timber on State forests

The Forestry Act 1959 provides for the reservation, management and protection of State forests and the sale of forest products on State lands, including State forests and timber reserves.

Under the Queensland Government’s administrative arrangements, the Forestry Act 1959 is jointly administered by (in part):

  • The Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing for the custody and managements of State forest not part of the Plantation Licence Agreement
  • The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for commercial forestry for native forests.
