2016–17 budget highlights

The 2016–17 NPSR budget delivers a number of initiatives to protect and manage our parks and forests; support and encourage active participation in physical activity; and support the Queensland racing industry.

Highlights in the budget include:

  • $13.2 million for the management of traditional lands in Cape York Peninsula, jointly with the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships.
  • $6 million to enable the establishment and ongoing management of properties acquired for the protected area estate.
  • $48 million to support grassroots sport and recreation participation through the Get in the Game initiative.
  • $19.4 million to help industry partners deliver services to increase participation in sport and recreation for all Queenslanders, particularly children and young people, women and girls, Indigenous people and culturally sensitive groups.
  • $6 million in 2016–17 ($21 million over four years) for the Country Racing Support Program to help support country racing.
